NYBFW S/S ‘27 UPCOMING TRENDS
Hello April! Pretty sure it was January about five minutes ago but all of a sudden, once again, Sam and I were back in New York, preparing for this season’s New York Bridal Fashion Week (NYBFW).
Every season, the bridal world looks to NYBFW to discover what’s next and naturally, we have to be there. Between dozens of appointments with some of the industry’s most sought-after bridal designers, private previews, and countless steps trotting around Manhattan in fabulous outfits (in our humble opinion), we spent the week sourcing the most exciting gowns, emerging designers, and defining upcoming trends for our brides.
From corsetry and sculptural silhouettes to fresh takes on romantic styling to an unexpected new silhouette, this season’s collections feel directional, fashion-forward, and deeply considered - and honestly, we cannot wait for you to see what’s coming!
THEME DRESSING
We’ve seen it on the red carpet for the last few years but it’s starting to trickle into bridal (as all good trends do!) This season was defined by pop culture - Wuthering Heights and the Carolyn Bessette + JFK love story. By re-defining modern bridal style and looping it with popular vintage trends, brides are invited to curate a cohesive aesthetic that can extend far beyond their gown if they wish!
Channel your inner Carolyn with the I’m Biased, But… slip gown from Varca. In true Varca fashion though, they had to add a little spice to a minimal gown with handmade crepe-back-satin flowers hanging from a satin necktie to complement that beautiful draped low back. But if you want true 90s vibes then you can’t wander too far past Danielle Frankel’s Aiden gown, a silk satin slip dress with an asymmetric scarf detail.
The Costarellos Thaline gown comes in a jacquard fabric with a touch of lace detail at the bodice and bottom of the full skirt. Thaline gives all the Wuthering Height vibes especially with that ever popular basque waist! Shout out to Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, our Queensland legends, because honestly who wouldn’t want to emulate Margot on their wedding day…
When each element is intentionally chosen around a theme, it reflects a distinct mood and the result feels immersive yet effortless where the bride’s look becomes part of a larger visual narrative rather than standing alone.
If you’re keen to explore theme dressing more, just mention it in your appointment notes and let us help you discover your inner Margot!
BOTANICALS, IN BLOOM
Floral detailing will always be in bloom (tee hee, get it) in modern bridal. Think delicate appliqué vines, sculptural floral embroidery, and barely-there petals that feel as though they’ve been pressed into silk. The effect is organic but oh so elevated, less overtly romantic and more quietly whimsical which brings a sense of movement and life to the gown without overwhelming it. This trend isn’t for every bride but it’s one of our favourites from this season!
This season, botanicals have been re-imagined in a few ways - subtle painted vibes with Varca’s Flocks of Organza - a soft asymmetrical dream with the most beautiful corsetry. As well as Varca’s other floral offering with their newest whimsical femme floral fabric. Seeking a gown that feels quietly luxurious rather than overtly bridal? Varca absolutely belongs in your try-on lineup!
Danielle Frankel have entered the chat again with their handprinted printed painted bodice in the Paloma, made modern and fun with the soft but sculptural draping throughout the skirt.
ACT II: PARTY PIECES
Party pieces are emerging as a distinct second act in modern bridal, designed with movement and energy in mind. Freed from tradition, these pieces embrace lighter fabrics, shorter hemlines, and subtle (and not so subtle) statement details. The second look is created for the shift from ceremony to celebration and there’s an ease to them that feels intentional yet undone, balancing refinement with a sense of play.
Did you say party piece? You can’t go past Alexandra Greco’s two newest offerings - the Jean gown and the Florence top and skirt. Nothing says late night fun like all the sparkles! You know what else is fun? Feathers. Danielle Frankel knows this but they’ll never do the expected so their “feathers” are actually frayed silk organza layered over horsehair to create a stunning textural woven fabric at the neckline and waistlin of their Syliva halter top. Fun fun fun. More feathers can be found over at Atelier Arielle with their Swanhild corset and skirt set - each feather is individually placed and hand sewn!
Whether sleek and minimal or softly embellished, the post ceremony look captures a more spontaneous side of bridal dressing - effortless, confident, and made for all the moments after.
DRAMATIC DRAPING
God, we love it! Draping takes on a more sculptural quality this season, with fabric gathered, folded, and wrapped to create depth and fluidity. There’s a sense of intention behind every line - nothing feels accidental. The result is both powerful and romantic, as silhouettes are shaped through movement rather than structure alone, offering a modern kind of drama that feels effortless rather than overt.
One of our favourite finds from this season has to be Noa Fineout. Her entire collection had all three of us v excited for what’s to come but my personal stand out was the Lucia corset paired with the Perle skirt! The draping was to die for! Varca always does a beautiful draped bodice and their newest collection is no different with the Soft Serve and Oui Sherry gown on their way to Bloom very very soon.
Costarellos and Danielle Frankel released a draped bodice ball gown - both so similar in idea, but so different in execution! Costarellos opted for an off the shoulder and halter neckline in a silk taffeta fabric whereas Danielle Frankel have their v neck draped bodice gown Reese in the most interesting silk gauze fabrication.
THE COOL GIRL PEPLUM
t’s been sneaking up on us slowly, but it’s undeniable now, the peplum is back! The peplum has been reworked with a distinctly modern sensibility… it’s less polished, more nonchalant. Cut with softer structure and often sitting lower on the waist, it creates shape without rigidity. Paired with clean lines and minimal detailing, it feels directional and quietly confident, offering a fresh alternative to more traditional bridal silhouettes. We saw a few peplum gowns last year at NYBFW but the trend has moved on and we’re ready to invest!
My gal Noa Fineout again made another beautiful corset in Elodie, this time in the most beautiful ethereal silk organza draped peplum bodice. Varca always nails a fun silhouette so unsurprisingly they have two peplum options in their newest collection - the Eduarda and the Mermaid Bones. Do you want lace with a mermaid skirt? Prefer a more minimal look with a painted flower? Varca’s got you covered either way.
Then why stop at one peplum, when you could have multiple? That’s certainly how Danielle Frankel feels with her Astra gown! Made in cascading layers of soft tulle, silk organza and honeycomb lace all embroidered with baroque pearls and transparent sequins - this gown has it all!
Loving the peplum trend? Our mailing list is the best place to stay informed - some styles will be joining us for a limited time in upcoming trunk shows before arriving in our permanent edit.
CORSETRY, REDEFINED
Corsetry is constantly shifting and changing and we’ve seen many iterations over the last few seasons. This season though, it’s less about restriction and more about supportive structure and form. Construction has become more fluid and the emphasis is on gentle shaping rather than overt cinching.
Corsetry is being layered under soft, sheer, light fabrics to offer support without severity. The result is modern and considered, leaving the corset to enhance the natural shape of the body.
The lace up corset is a new addition in the Bloom studio and our friends at Bretagne keep upping the ante giving us new fabrics and silhouettes with that same flattering fit. Their new lace gown Mina is going to be a very welcome addition to our Bretagne range! But speaking of lace up corsetry, I’ve got to mention the Noa Fineout Lucia corset again... we were floored by the shape with that higher cut on the sides, it just sat so beautifully on the body!
We know exactly why our brides love a corseted gown (hint: because they’re wildly flattering and all fit perfectly on the body) so in unsurprising news, we’re definitely expecting corsetry to stay one of our most requested silhouettes this year! So if corsetry is all over your mood board - definitely lock in an appointment to see these (and many more) beauties!
As always, please let me know what you’re loving! Is there any trends you didn’t expect to see this year? Anything silhouettes you’re super excited about? If you’re still early on in your search and want to discuss next options - we offer a complimentary 15-minute welcome call with me or one of our other stylists. It’s our chance to discuss your wedding, your timeline and your next steps with you prior to booking an appointment!
Trunk show announcements will be on their way shortly, as always we’re speedily trying to finalise dates and you’ll be the first to know!
