Wedding Dress Planning: What to Expect

Are you just starting your dress journey to find the perfect look for your wedding day? Our “what to expect guide” will give you all the information you need to know about dress planning and the process including:

  • Initial Studio Appointments

  • Second Look & Styling

  • Ordering Your Look

  • Fittings & Alterations

Initial Studio Appointments

If Saturdays are your best day to visit, we recommend booking your appointment 4-6 weeks in advance to ensure you can secure a weekend spot with us. Before your appointment, please take a minute to browse our designer pages and note a few that catch your eye. You will still have access to try on our whole collection while you are in the studio, but it’s helpful for us to get an initial idea of the aesthetic you’re looking for. You are welcome to try on any styles you like during your 90-minute appointment.

Keep in mind that studio samples will never fit you perfectly, and our stylists are on hand to help adjust the gown and guide you. Our sample pieces range in size from 10-14 (and we’re working hard to expand our collection- stay tuned!). Our gowns are made-to-order, meaning each piece is made for you in the closest size according to that designer’s size chart, and minor alterations are to be expected to ensure a perfect fit.

Second Look & Styling

Some brides need a little more time to shop around or think over their favourites, and we completely understand; it’s a big decision! You can always book a complimentary second look or styling appointment to revisit your shortlist and get some ideas on veils and accessories to complete your look.

Ordering Your Look

You have found the one, congrats!

We’ll take your measurements to determine your size and review our Store Policy with you. 50% of the purchase price is due to secure your order and get it into production. We will keep you updated on the progress of your dress and any due dates along the way. Once the gown is on its way to us we will get in touch with you to schedule your first fitting. Exciting!

Fittings & Alterations

This is where you get to meet your chosen look! If you’d like our specialised team to look after your alterations, this is where we will begin the process. These are hands-on appointments to go through any alterations or amendments that need to be made so that your gown sits and fits how you would like it to. For this fitting, you will need to bring along your wedding shoes and any undergarments you are planning to wear on the wedding day. Allow 4-6 weeks for the alterations process.

*Of course we’d love to look after your alterations, however, you are not obligated to use our team if you have another dressmaker you would prefer to use. This service is quoted separately, and due to our limited capacity, we can only offer alterations services for Bloom brides.
